  • What Criteria can best differentiate between Soft & Hard Drugs?

Answer (pg. 102).

The getaway concept is the best criteria that can best help to distinguish soft drugs from hard drugs. The concept claims that, the less harmful and often legalized drugs in most countries could lead to a possible development of the use of more harmful drugs. Soft drugs, which are considered less deleterious and cause negligible physical dependency. On the other hand, hard drugs are those drugs that are regarded as harmful to the users and they are more prone to developing both mental and physical dependency. The getaway concept therefore suggests that frequent use of soft drugs could lead to a gradual use of the hard drugs.

  • Is it possible the "Gateway Theory" may serve the interest of public officials involved in the drug war? If so, how it happened?

Answer (p. 102).

It is possible that the Getaway Theory can serve the interest of public officials in the drug war because the theory helps to distinguish soft drugs and hard drugs, which therefore can be relied upon by the officials to determine the level of addiction. Those who use soft drugs are more likely to develop a habit of using hard drugs. Therefore, officials can apply the concept that is inherent in the theory and employ measures and approaches to curb instances of soft drug users gradually developing into hard drug users. Per se, public officials can be able to deal with cases of young and restless youths and help them avoid developing both physical and mental drug dependency for the better of their health.

  • Why are "Getting huge & Getting ripped" so important to some males? Talk to student from other countries and ask them whether these objectives are important to males in their geographic area? Answer (pg.130).

The notion that getting huge and ripped makes one more attractive to the opposite sex as well as for security purposes makes it so important for males to prefer getting huge and ripped. Certainly, huge and ripe men have augmented physical strength compared to skinny men and females have a tendency of falling for huge and ripped men because of the fact that they look attractive and females feel being secure around them. Besides, frustrations contribute to the desire for men to get huge and ripped. Apparently, most male students that I have talked to have backed up the reason saying that most men from their home countries develop a desire in becoming huge and ripped because they believe that it makes them strong and attractive.

  • Should an article on Anabolic steroid use be included in a text that addresses drug use? Why or why not?

Answer (pg.134).

Yes, an article on Anabolic steroid use should be included in a text that addresses drug use because the usage is normally abused without the knowledge of the users. Anabolic steroid, which is often used by bodybuilders, athletes and weightlifters, do not have any prescription for the use of the drug. As such, the victims tend to use a lot of the drug with the hope that they will perform or get better results. Consequently, as they say, too much of something is dangerous, the victims are at a risk of developing health complications such as liver damage and/or have develop adverse effects on the cardiovascular system to the user. The health hazards associated with the normally abused anabolic steroids gives a reason for the drug use to be included in the fight against drug abuse.
